There are many times and many reasons why you may need to rent a car or truck. Moving from one place to another may cause you to need to rent a moving truck. Flying into a different city may cause you to need to rent a
car for the duration of your visit. If you go on vacation, you might want to rent a car to keep the mileage off your personal car. Many other reasons and situations may call for a car rental. If you do want to rent a car there are some things you can do to make sure that you get the best deal.

The first thing to do is to rent the car online. Car rental companies charge less for their cars when their online site is used. This is because the job is done by a computer and not one of their employees. Make sure you check the prices of all rental companies to make sure that you get the one that is charging the least. Use local rental agencies when possible because they are less expensive than national companies. With a local company, you probably will not get a huge selection of cars to choose from but the savings may be worth the lack of selection.

Just like airline, bus, and other travel tickets car rental rates are cheaper through the week than they are on the weekend. Try to plan your rental so that the car is rented on a weekday and not a weekend. Even if the rental rolls into the weekend, the cheaper weekday rate will still apply. Rent for as long as possible because the longer you rent a vehicle the less the daily rate is going to be. Do not be surprised when you are shopping around for a rental to find that a seven-day rental is actually less than a four or five day rental.

When renting a car choose a smaller type of vehicle over luxury or sport type vehicles. Smaller cars are less for two main reasons. One the rental company has to pay less to insure the smaller less expensive car and they are not as in demand as the larger luxury cars. When renting a truck rent the proper size truck for the job that needs done. If you are moving, renting a small truck may look less expensive but when you add all of the mileage for the multiple trips, it can be as much or more than if you rented a large truck.
